A highlight of their presence will be the world premiere of their documentary, “Spy Capital: Vienna,” scheduled for May 16 at the Olympia Cinema at 8 PM. The premiere is open to all badge holders and the press, promising broad accessibility to festival attendees.
The documentary “Spy Capital: Vienna” delves into the rich espionage history of Vienna, portraying the city as a pivotal hub for global intelligence activities for over 150 years. It explores significant historical events, starting with the espionage activities at the Vienna World Exhibition in 1873, and extends to modern-day intelligence operations. The narrative brings to light the story of Colonel Alfred Redl, a key figure in Austro-Hungarian military intelligence, who was exposed as a Russian spy and subsequently took his own life in 1913.
Westside Studios has also announced that “Spy Capital: Vienna” has been selected for inclusion at the Red Cedar Film Festival in Menomonie, Wisconsin. The U.S. premiere will take place on July 12 at 4 PM at the historic Mabel Tainter Theater and Wilson Park. This marks a significant step in the film’s journey through the festival circuit, following its debut in Cannes.
The film has already garnered significant acclaim, securing 13 awards and receiving 30 nominations globally. Adding to its list of accolades, ‘Spy Capital: Vienna’ recently won two more awards at the Crown Pont Film Festival in Chicago: Best First-Time Filmmaker and Best Original Score for ‘Undercover’ by Peter Sax. This recognition underscores the documentary’s impact and the compelling nature of its narrative, which is bolstered by meticulous reenactments and expert interviews.
In addition to “Spy Capital: Vienna,” Westside Studios is actively developing several projects, including “The Vienna Procedure,” currently in post-production, and “Spy Capital: London,” which is in the pre-production phase and seeking investors. Furthermore, “Nora,” a feature film focusing on a woman’s ambitious journey, is also looking for co-production opportunities.
The production company continues to expand its portfolio with innovative projects such as “KGB in London” and “The Tale of Red Swallows,” both slated for future release. These projects reflect the studio’s ongoing commitment to exploring intricate, historically rich narratives that engage and educate audiences worldwide.
