David Contreras Silva, a Chilean artist and filmmaker, has developed a unique approach to storytelling that bridges music, film, and literature. After years of working in film and writing, Contreras Silva turned to music composition in 2020, beginning a creative path that would lead to an interconnected narrative universe spanning multiple albums and visual works.
Working through his production house Chilefantástico—originally founded as a platform for independent film—Contreras Silva has produced three conceptual albums. His debut “Tierra 2020” tells a story of global upheaval through 30 original tracks featuring dramatic voiceovers. The project caught the attention of the Chilean Ministry of Culture, which provided support for its development.
“Naciente” (2021-2022), his second album, charts a markedly different course. Moving away from earthbound themes, the work explores cosmic landscapes and interstellar journeys. The album draws inspiration from classic anime soundtracks and retro-futuristic video games, blending electronic elements with orchestral compositions to create a distinctive space-age atmosphere.
His third album, “Consecration of the Spirit” (2023-2025), completes what he calls The Avasalla Saga. The 13 compositions tell the story of the fictional Avasalla Kingdom, where forces of light and darkness clash in an ongoing conflict. The music combines battle themes, atmospheric pieces, and brass arrangements to convey its fantasy narrative.

Contreras Silva has expanded these musical stories through a series of short films that serve as music videos. Using a combination of digital animation and AI-enhanced visuals, these pieces add visual elements to his musical narratives. “Desabastecimiento” and “Crop Circles” from “Tierra 2020” established this approach, while “Blue Rest” from “Naciente” presents retro-futuristic themes from a Latin American perspective.
For “Consecration of the Spirit,” he has released three connected videos: “Garden of Ambrosia,” “Witches’ Bacchanal,” and “Thanatic Drive.” These pieces work together to tell a continuous story, with “Thanatic Drive” depicting the return of Alejandro, an exiled king seeking to reclaim his throne in the Avasalla Kingdom. The video caught the attention of U.S. media outlet Just American News, which featured it in August 2024.
Looking ahead to 2025, Contreras Silva is working on two additional albums that will serve as prequels to “Consecration of the Spirit.” Alongside these musical projects, he’s writing a trilogy of fantasy novels set in the same universe, aiming to create connections between his musical and literary work.
From his base in Chile’s Biobío region, Contreras Silva continues to build his narrative world across different media. His music videos often incorporate elements of high-end film production, combining original footage with digital effects and artistic direction to create self-contained stories that complement his musical compositions.
Fans interested in exploring this growing body of work can find his music and videos on YouTube, where he regularly releases new content. His music is also available on Spotify, and he shares updates about his creative process on Instagram.
Each new release from Contreras Silva builds upon his existing work, adding layers to the stories he began telling through music. Working at the intersection of orchestral composition, digital filmmaking, and fantasy literature, he has carved out a unique space in contemporary Latin American art – one where music doesn’t just accompany stories, but becomes the primary medium through which they’re told.
