Producing new music and developing mobile apps aren’t activities you’d club together. However, this Australian Jamaican DJ/artist continues breaking molds and creating fresh new grooves for his followers.
Admittedly, he’s not the biggest name in the business. In fact, this post is probably the first time you’ve heard of this artist. No worries. A quick intro and some killer points on who he is may prompt you to build a new playlist with some of his relaxing Reggae tracks.
About DJ Wade
Born as Marvin Wade Reid, DJ Wade is an Australian artist and entrepreneur of Jamaican origin. Fans and followers also recognize him from his virtual stage name, Dasvibes.
DJ Wade found his musical beginnings in Jamaica, where he would play and perform with his brother Bobby. The local music scene knew them to perform on popular sound systems such as Dub Sonic, sharing their acts in local events, especially around the Seaview Gardens area.
Marvin went on to collect a degree in Information Technology from Kingston, making him as much a techie as a musician.
The duo also started a small record label in the early 2000s with a friend from Germany. Here, they began producing music and collaborating on multiple projects with like-minded labels and individuals.
Wade moved to Australia in the late 2000s seeking better opportunities in tech and music. 2010 saw him become a professional mobile app developer. This experience with developing software allowed him to refine his skills in music production too.
Music Styles and Themes
Wade’s YouTube channel features dozens of groovy tracks that all incorporate Reggae with complementary music genres. And even a quick listen will show you that he experiments with some cool beats and tones.
Collaborations from his best tracks include dancehall themes in many instances. But he’s also fearless in mixing things up with electronic dance music or intense hip-hop energy.
Recurring tropes across most of his tracks include classic Reggae themes of love, equality, and peace. Expect some nice overtones of bass and rhythm in his dancehall tracks. These harmonies may come from Wade’s love for artists like Sean Paul, who execute them so well.
As a performer and producer, Dasvibes may lend his voice to the tracks or sit back and produce the whole project allowing fellow artists to perform the song.
Recent tracks like ‘I Need You’with singer/songwriter Blessed serve as an exuberant love song or a spirited dance song, depending on your mood. Older projects like ‘Atlantis’ by Farenizzi exhibit the fresh pop sounds that were popular in the 2000s. Keep an ear out for the bluesy and funky guitar riffs when you listen to this one.
Dasvibes: What Lies Ahead
Dasvibes and his team paired up with the guys at Stickmen Toys to create a killer track titled ‘Stickmen Toys Rock,’ recently.
