Blending the raw energy of classic rock with the intricate layers of symphonic metal, Gates of Seleucia is making its mark on the music scene. This project, the brainchild of guitarist and songwriter Andreas Schneider, brings together the best of both worlds – paying tribute to rock legends while pushing into new innovative territories.
Schneider’s journey in music began in childhood, but it was a chance encounter with an electric guitar that set him on his current path. “Everything changed when I for the first time held an electric guitar in my hands while visiting a friend,” Schneider recalls. “From this moment I decided to learn this unique instrument and it was love at first sight or better first chord.”
After years of playing in a local cover band, Schneider felt compelled to pursue his own musical vision. “I decided to concentrate more on writing own music,” he explains. “After already performing some own songs live on some of our gigs, I decided to leave and form the new band project ‘Gates of Seleucia’ to realize my own musical visions.”
The sound of Gates of Seleucia is deeply rooted in classic rock, drawing inspiration from legendary bands like Deep Purple and Rainbow. Schneider cites Ritchie Blackmore’s guitar playing as a significant influence. However, the project doesn’t shy away from more contemporary influences. “I’m also a great fan of alternative & symphonic metal bands like Nightwish or Evanescence what influenced my musical direction as well,” Schneider adds.
What sets Gates of Seleucia apart is Schneider’s holistic approach to music creation. “The music, lyrics & arrangements are completely made by myself and I also play all guitars,” he states. This level of creative control allows for a cohesive artistic vision throughout the project’s output.
The project’s lyrics often delve into diverse themes, drawing inspiration from various sources. Schneider elaborates, “The lyrics in general are dealing with different themes, often inspired by art, books, movies, tv series or own experiences with mostly deeper meanings.” This approach is evident in tracks like “Broken Memories” and “The Cry of the Loreley,” which explore themes of loss, legend, and complex relationships.
One of the defining features of Gates of Seleucia is its collaborative nature. Schneider has worked with various vocalists and musicians on different singles, bringing diverse talents into the fold. He explains, “I’m really passionate about collaborating with other artists worldwide to create a special musical experience with a lot of variety & professionality.”
When asked to describe his music to first-time listeners, Schneider says, “Gates of Seleucia moves between classic rock/hardrock & alternative/symphonic metal but is also open to experimentate with other genres or even combine them.”
Looking to the future, Schneider has ambitious plans for Gates of Seleucia. “The name of the band already reflects my love for historic themes. This will be a even greater topic in upcoming projects,” he reveals. “For example a song about the greek general ‘Seleukos Nikator’ is already in work. In future projects I try do bring some more epic & symphonic elements in my music.”
For Schneider, the journey of Gates of Seleucia is just beginning. He hopes that listeners will connect with his passion for handmade music and storytelling. “I hope they share my passion for handmade music and the stories I tell and that I can surprise them with an extraordinary experience beyond genre borders,” he says.
As Gates of Seleucia continues to evolve, Andreas Schneider remains committed to his artistic vision. “Through art, you create your own world,” he states, encapsulating the ethos that drives his creative process. With each new release, Gates of Seleucia invites listeners to step through its musical portals and explore the rich, diverse landscapes of rock and metal.
