Music gives us all kinds of emotions—joy, pain, guilt, confidence, anger, or simply peace. Music artists usually convey these emotions within a song. The listeners may feel it, absorb it and hold on to the melody as if it’s in their veins. One artist that’s got a song stuck in our veins is none other than Julian Quander. His new single “Never Let the Love Stop” featuring Champagne Duane is catching steam.
Here’s why you should listen to it. This extraordinary soulful pop song has got the people talking. The 100 bpm tempo drums hit hard with the strong horn section riff. I could hear an entire marching band playing this song. Julian’s voice matches the song well. I like the vocal range he demonstrates in the song. He’s definitely a tenor, folks. I like how he goes low on the part where he sings, “For my lady.” I also love his old-school licks with the words “sugar, sweet baby.” Then Champagne Duane smoothly comes in with his lyrically skilled verse within the confines of the beat. I do not think this beat is easy for a rapper to handle, but he handled it nicely. The overall feeling I get from the song is positive. I can hear the Motown influence in Julian’s style. I think Julian can really go far with this kind of song. It’s universal and can be played almost anywhere.
The music video takes us in quite a different direction. I didn’t expect it to be all people of Asian descent. Does he have some kind of Asian fetish? I thought the storyline was bizarrely brilliant. I haven’t seen a funny music video in a long time. The music video starts with Julian and Duane cast as construction workers. They glance at a cryptic gaming machine with “Asiaverse” written on top and are pulled into the machine. I really liked the color scheme they had going on. The bright colors created a wholehearted comfortable feeling. When they’re splurged out of the machine, Julian and Duane come out with dapper outfits. As I read the music video credits, I realized Julian wrote the script and directed the music video. That’s quite rare that a music artist directs his own music videos. I was really impressed with the music video quality. The special effects were cool. You can tell Julian put a lot of thought behind this music video.
Julian Quander comes from a historic family within the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region of the United States. The Quander family is believed to be the oldest documented African American family in the United States. Are the Quanders all musically inclined like him?
Julian Quander is a new breed, for sure. I can’t quite compare his style to anyone yet.
He’s still too new to understand, but I know in time, we’ll be able to understand him more as an artist. I’m really curious to see what he comes up with next.
