In the vast world of music, harmony comes in many forms, but for Seth Pilipski, the ups and downs translating into hills and valleys of his life journey and the resonating sine waves of music resonate with profound symmetry. This passionate singer-songwriter is on a mission to fill the valleys with purpose-driven music and elevate people to the summit with his soul-stirring compositions.
Seth first ventured into music at the tender age of 14 in 1990, finding inspiration and pure joy in crafting melodious expressions of his thoughts and emotions. His journey flourished when he signed his first record deal with the internet’s pioneer record label, J-Bird Records, in 1997, leading to the release of his maiden album ‘Send out a dove’.
Indeed, Seth’s music career had seemed on an upward trajectory, with performances up and down the east coast and online promotion, until events took a devastating turn. His second record “Piker”, produced by Kimon Katafigiotis and scheduled for release on the ill-fated day of September 11, 2001, got lost amidst the chaotic aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks.
Despite the downturn, Seth found solace in his art, spending 15 years ghostwriting while simultaneously providing support to Broadway’s theatrical district through BB Props, a service company based in Little falls, NJ. But, life was not without troubles; Seth grappled with personal issues, struggling with addictive habits, and embarked on a challenging road to recovery in 2012.
Emerging stronger than ever, Seth found a new lease on life, both personally and professionally. Rekindling his passion for composing, he decided to step out from the shadows of ghostwriting, reunite his band Superflo, and embark on a fresh journey of self-expression. His determination resulted in the release of two albums in 2022 – “Doodooshoe” and “Songs from the Ether”, features that allowed him to wipe the slate clean and move forward wholeheartedly into his rebirth.
Now known as Sethy Books/@sethybooks, the artist passionately talks about his music being the embodiment of his quest for truth, personal dignity and respect for human dignity at large. One area that Sethy is particularly excited about is his collaboration with “Fresh Roots Music”, a publishing arm dedicated to working with New Jersey-based songwriters, producers, and singers, thereby fostering a community of shared creativity and inspiring fresh talents.
Presently, Sethy is eagerly working on future releases – a sequel to “Doodooshoe” and a self-titled album “Sethy Books” – scheduled for 2023 and 2024 respectively, indicating a packed and promising future. He invites fans and ardent listeners to stay tuned to his upcoming performances through the links on Bands in town, under the names Seth Pilipski & Superflo / Sethy Books.
When asked about potential collaborations, Sethy emphasizes his keenness to work with the artists “next in line”, highlighting his belief in the power of shared creativity and his appreciation for the insights gained from working alongside diverse talents.
Describing his musical style, Sethy likens his project Superflo to be the auditory offspring of Van Morrison, Foo Fighters, and Counting Crows, while his doodooshoe album echoes jazz legends with a whimsical twist. Above all, he hopes that his music will inspire listeners to support independent artists, share their favorite tracks, and be part of the creation of a vibrant local scene with a global reach.
Instead of echoing someone else’s tune, Sethy has chosen to compose his own symphony, turning hills and valleys of life into harmonious melodies while inviting listeners along on this versatile journey. As Sethy sings and shares his truth, may his music provide comfort in the valleys and exhilaration on the hills for his listeners around the world.
