Industry leaders share real-world strategies for licensing music in film, television, and advertising
The 2018 edition of Sync Con successfully brought together more than 600 music creators, producers, and entertainment professionals from around the world, both in person and virtually through the Sync Community online platform. The one-day event delivered an immersive educational experience focused on empowering and teaching independent artists to navigate the world of music licensing, supervision, and sync placements.
This year’s conference featured The Sync Community Sessions, a series of interactive classes and conversations connecting creators directly with the music supervisors and editors shaping today’s media landscape.
The Sync Community Session Highlights included:

“Inside the Mind of a Music Supervisor” with main speaker, Jody Friedman, Founder of HD Music Now, who explained and coached on how music is discovered, cleared, and licensed for major projects including The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu), Snowfall (FX), and Won’t You Be My Neighbor (Focus Features).
“Music Editing for Television and Late-Night Programming” with Lois Ayodele, Music Editor for Showtime and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, offering a technical view of post-production workflows and collaboration.
Additional sessions featured Divinity Roxx, Grammy-performing musician and former bassist for Beyoncé, and Gissel Alvarez, Digital Producer at BET Networks, who spoke on branding, content strategy, and digital storytelling.
By blending on-site and virtual participation, Sync Con 2018 and the Sync Community solidified their shared mission to educate, coach, and connect global music creators on music licensing and with the professionals who bring music to screens worldwide.
