If music has the power to connect, soothe, and heal, then Natalie Duque is its master conductor. A gifted singer, songwriter, producer, and an upcoming music therapist, Duque has been on a lifelong mission to create music that resonates and reverberates in the hearts of her listeners.
Duque’s affinity for music was birthed from her earliest experiences. Her vibrant journey with music began on the backseat of her mother’s minivan, the Wilson Phillips album being her first lyrical canvas. A classically trained vocalist who grew up on top 40 hits, she found her artistic home in the sphere of 90s singer-songwriters such as Jewel and Alanis Morissette. Post-college, she leaped into her music career, kick-starting her journey with a crowd-funded debut EP and has since released four EPs and eight singles.
Her music channels a delightful blend of pop sensibility laced with narrative-driven lyrics, journeying through experiences of pain and landing on the uplifting notes of hope. Duque’s music draws inspiration from the playful lyricism of Miranda Lambert, and the soul-baring honesty of Adele. It becomes a beautifully compiled memoir of her life moments, accentuated by soaring melodies and emotional authenticity.
For Duque, music transcends just being a passion—it’s a path to healing. A journey fraught with trials and tribulations, she battled with her mental health and even illness, until she decided to surrender to the calling of a creative career. The decision changed her life, transforming her music into a testament of resilience, perseverance, and the power of embracing uncertainty.
Today, Natalie Duque is much more than a celebrated artist. She is a mental health advocate, a public speaker, and a future music therapist. Her keynote talk, “The Purpose of Paradox: How Embracing Uncertainty Can Help You Find Your True Calling,” aims to inspire and empower people to pursue their passion and purpose, a philosophy that beautifully mirrors her life story.
The theme of resilience also reverberates in her first self-produced album, “Lullabies and Angry Cries.” It’s a tribute to her journey of self-love and recovery from childhood trauma, and in many ways, a love letter to her inner child. Her choice to self-produce is as much about taking creative control as it is a financial necessity, allowing her to keep pace with the rapid songwriting flowing from her heart.
Not just a creator, Duque is also a collaborator. Her dream collaboration is with Julia Michaels, the ‘master storyteller with catchy melodies.’ She’s also a voice in others’ stories, writing custom love songs that allow her to weave her listener’s tales into melodies, making their special moments even more memorable.
And there’s more to come. With a single dropping at the end of August, and subsequent releases every two months until the full album launch in June 2024, fans can look forward to more musical wonders from Duque.
Whether it’s her music, her work as a speaker, or her custom songwriting services, Duque’s ambition is to connect and help others feel less alone. As she succinctly puts it, her hope is for listeners to experience the magic of music that she’s been given, making her not only a music artist but a music healer.
