Como operates quietly in a music industry obsessed with chart dominance and viral moments. She’s chosen a different route, one built on introspection, intimacy, and creative independence. Her single “Emily” offers a window into both her personal evolution and her approach to songwriting, setting her apart from many of her contemporaries.

Born in Austria and raised in western Styria, Como’s connection to music started early. A beautiful old Bösendorfer baby grand piano became her private journal. At those keys, she turned her thoughts and experiences into lyrical fragments set to melodies. For years, this relationship with music remained her secret, something she wasn’t ready to share beyond her own walls.

Then things shifted unexpectedly. A series of chance encounters brought Como into the music industry, leading to a major label deal and the recording of her debut album, “Music Diary,” at Berlin’s legendary Hansa Studios. But the sudden attention and industry pressures overwhelmed her, and she stepped back from the public eye to reconsider what music meant to her.

Now Como has returned as an independent artist, reconnecting with her work on her own terms. Her single “Emily” is a four-minute composition that feels both raw and carefully considered. It’s an important release for Como as she navigates this new phase of independence. “Emily” strips things down to essentials, centering on the natural, unpolished sound of a Fazioli grand piano. Occasional layers of delicate synths, celli, and strings add texture without overwhelming the song’s inherent simplicity.

‘Emily’ by Como

“Emily” functions as a musical letter to Como’s younger self, addressing past insecurities and imperfections with both honesty and compassion. Her voice, warm and vulnerable, delivers each line with genuine feeling that draws listeners into her reflective process. The track builds from introspective verses to a powerful crescendo, tracing a path toward self-acceptance and the understanding that past struggles shape who we become.

The single reflects Como’s growth as both an artist and person. It shows her willingness to experiment across different sounds and styles, moving between singer-songwriter pop, alt pop, electro-pop, and film music. Still, “Emily” remains intensely personal, which has always been central to Como’s work. She continues to push against genre limitations, constantly searching for fresh ways to channel her creativity. Her experimental approach never loses that personal core, creating what she calls “slow food for the soul” that asks for careful attention.

Como thinks of her music as a diary, filled with secrets and experiences she once kept private. Through her journey, though, she’s discovered the value in sharing these songs, in connecting with others through her stories and melodies. Her music invites listeners to consider their own reflections, to find comfort in the experiences we all navigate.

Drawing influence from artists ranging from Alanis Morissette to Billie Eilish, Como shares their interest in experimentation, genre-crossing, and meaningful lyrics. Right now, she’s working with a “less is more” approach, focusing on recordings that capture the intimate relationship between her voice and piano. This stripped-back method, she feels, reveals what her music is really about, exposing the intensity and emotion at its center.

Como maintains a selective online presence, with a preference for platforms like YouTube. Fans can also connect through her website, Facebook and Instagram.

As Como moves forward as an independent artist, her music offers something for listeners seeking depth, authenticity, and real emotional connection. With “Emily” and her other work, she’s made the case for introspection, the courage vulnerability requires, and music’s capacity to bring people together through shared experience.
