Matan Hamish Makes Songs for Artists Who Haven’t Found Him Yet

The first thing Matan Hamish wants you to know about the cat in his profile photo is that its name is Chvostek. The second thing? He’s not trying to be the next singing sensation. From his home studio in Tel-Aviv, the pediatrician-turned-songwriter is crafting songs for other artists to sing—and his approach might be exactly what the industry needs right now.

“Big, melodic, a bit dramatic (like me) and always catchy,” Matan Hamish says, describing his sound with the kind of self-awareness that permeates his work. It’s this combination of emotional intensity and pop sensibility that’s drawing attention to his growing catalog.

His journey to songwriting took an unconventional route. As a teenager, he found himself drawn to metal bands, using music as an outlet for expression. Medical school intervened, as it tends to do, consuming years that might have otherwise been spent in recording studios. But after what he describes as a recent personal crisis, Hamish returned to the one thing that had always made sense.

“Music helped me rise up from the darkest of places in my life,” he explains. That return has produced something unexpected: a collection of songs that refuse to be boxed into a single genre.

Take “Homeland,” which pairs nostalgic guitar tones with a touch of twang, creating a relatable journey about searching for belonging. Or “Hallucinating,” which ventures into entirely different territory—a dark electronic production that builds into house music while exploring the disorientation of being gaslit. “Tunnel Vision” leans into rock, using drowning metaphors to capture exhaustion, while “Oxygen” strips things back to piano and ethereal pads, documenting the process of learning to breathe again after loss.

The range is deliberate. “I write in a variety of music genres, from pop and EDM to country and rock,” Hamish notes, adapting his style to match whatever emotional truth he’s chasing. He handles all the writing, composing, arranging, and producing himself, bringing in vocalists but directing their performances with the same attention to detail he likely brings to his medical practice.

What sets Matan Hamish apart isn’t just technical skill—it’s his clarity about his role in the music ecosystem. He’s not interested in fame or performing. Instead, he’s focused on finding a publisher or manager who can connect his songs with the right artists.

“I’m an aspiring songwriter looking to get my songs recorded by other recording artists,” he states plainly. Currently, he’s reworking tracks with other producers, promising his followers to “stay tuned for bigger & better songs and productions.”

For someone splitting time between examining patients and perfecting chord progressions, Matan Hamish seems to have found his balance. He hopes listeners discover in his music “a home, a voice they were looking for and still haven’t found in other songs.”

Given the emotional depth and technical polish of his current output, that voice might be exactly what someone’s been searching for.
