Como is a hidden gem in the music industry, where the spotlight often shines on chart-topping hits and global superstars. Opting for a path less traveled, she prioritizes introspection, intimacy, and independence. Her single, “Emily,” provides a compelling insight into her personal and musical journey, highlighting her distinctive position among today’s artists.

Born in Austria and raised in the picturesque western part of Styria, Como has always found solace in music. Her journey into the world of melodies began in her childhood, with a beautiful old Bösendorfer baby grand piano serving as her diary. Here, amidst the ivories, Como penned her thoughts and experiences, turning them into lyrical fragments accompanied by melodies. This intimate relationship with music was her secret, a hidden part of herself she was reluctant to share with the world.

However, fate had other plans. A series of unexpected encounters led Como to the music industry’s doorstep, culminating in a major label deal and the recording of her debut album, “Music Diary,” at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin. Yet, the sudden hype and the pressures of the music business were overwhelming for Como, prompting her to retreat from the public eye and reassess her relationship with music.

Today, Como returns as an independent artist, embracing her music with renewed passion and purpose. In her single, “Emily,” Como showcases a composition that is both beautifully raw and refined. The track, which runs for slightly over four minutes, marks a significant chapter in Como’s career as she steps forward as an independent artist. “Emily” is distinguished by its minimalistic arrangement, highlighting Como’s choice to let the natural, unpolished tones of a Fazioli grand piano take center stage. This choice is further complemented by the occasional layering of delicate synths, celli, and strings, adding depth without overshadowing the song’s intrinsic simplicity.

‘Emily’ by Como

“Emily” serves as a musical letter to Como’s younger self, weaving a narrative that is both personal and universal. The lyrics are a blend of introspection and encouragement, reflecting on past insecurities and imperfections. Como’s voice, warm and fragile, delivers each line with a sincerity that invites listeners into her reflective journey. The song progresses from its introspective verses to a powerful crescendo, symbolizing a journey towards self-acceptance and the realization that the trials of the past are integral to one’s growth.

The single stands as a testament to Como’s evolution as an artist and individual. It underscores her willingness to explore different sounds and styles, bridging the gap between singer-songwriter pop, alt pop, electro-pop, and film music. Yet, at its core, “Emily” remains deeply personal—a characteristic feature of Como’s music. Through this track, Como continues to challenge genre boundaries, always on the lookout for new ways to express her creativity. Yet, despite her experimental nature, Como’s work remains deeply personal, a slow food for the soul that demands attentive listening.

Como describes her music as a diary, a collection of secrets and experiences she once guarded fiercely. Yet, through her journey, she has learned the value of sharing her music, of connecting with others through her stories and melodies. Her music is an invitation to listeners to delve into their own reflections, to find comfort and understanding in the shared experiences of life.

Influenced by a diverse array of artists from Alanis Morissette to Billie Eilish, Como shares their love for experimentation, genre-crossing, and impactful lyrics. Currently, she is embracing a “less is more” philosophy, focusing on recordings that highlight the intimate setting of her voice and piano. This approach, according to Como, captures the essence of her music, revealing the intensity and emotion at its core.

Como’s presence in the digital world is uniquely selective, with a preference for platforms like YouTube. However, fans and listeners alike can connect further via her website, Facebook and Instagram.

As Como continues her journey as an independent artist, her music serves as a haven for those looking for depth, authenticity, and genuine emotional connection. With “Emily” and her other compositions, she emphasizes the importance of introspection, the courage in showing vulnerability, and music’s incredible power to unite us.
