Musicians who spend years mastering their instrument often keep their songwriting dreams quietly tucked away. Not Naty Giachino – the seasoned drummer has finally stepped beyond her familiar territory behind the kit to unveil her debut solo album “Just a Drummer.” Released just last week on March 14th, this adventurous eleven-track collection reveals an artist who’s ready to share her voice with the world – both literally and metaphorically.
For years, Naty was the steady pulse behind other artists’ music. Now, alongside British musician Alex Scarfe, she’s crafted something entirely her own. Their creative partnership flows throughout the album’s 38-minute runtime, with Alex’s intuitive guitar work and bass lines weaving seamlessly with Naty’s drumming and newly unveiled songwriting voice.
Though her masterful drumming still pulses through every track, it’s Naty’s natural gift for melody and storytelling that catches you off guard. What started as a few exploratory songs in early 2024 has grown into something much bigger – a collection that proves there’s always been more to this drummer than just keeping time.
What sets “Just a Drummer” apart is its wonderfully unpredictable nature. The album opens with the pulse-quickening “L.A. Sands” before gracefully easing into the hushed beauty of “The Whole Town Was Asleep.” Naty fearlessly crosses genre boundaries, from the Latin-tinged warmth of “Libros Sin Tapas” (which might have Carlos Santana himself nodding in approval) to the gritty, amplified swagger of “Chelsea Girls.” Her lyrics, alternating between English and Spanish, paint vivid pictures of a life lived across continents.

Naty’s musical roots run deep. After studying under Uruguay’s legendary drummer Osvaldo Fattoruso, she built an impressive resume that includes television and radio appearances throughout South America. She’s shared stages with industry veterans, including a notable collaboration with Pink Floyd and Madonna bassist Guy Pratt. In early 2024, she began testing the waters as a songwriter, releasing singles that hinted at what was to come.
The new album, recorded between studios in the UK and Japan with Alex Scarfe providing all guitar and bass arrangements, feels like a natural evolution rather than a dramatic reinvention. It bridges Naty’s rich South American heritage with her present life in London’s vibrant music community. Critics have already begun drawing parallels between her distinctive storytelling approach and influential artists like PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, and Nico – though Naty’s voice remains uniquely her own.
For those eager to experience the album live, Naty will be performing at several UK festivals throughout the summer months, followed by an anticipated tour of Japan this winter. “Just a Drummer” is currently available across all major streaming platforms.
